1: CHOPARD.

The company’s founder, Louis-Ulysse Chopard, was a Swiss watchmaker who grew up in Sonvilliers, a town in the Swiss Jura. In 1860, he established his L.U.C. The company set up manufacture in Sonvilliers, after seeing that it was more profitable to market a finished watch than to simply make mechanical movements.

In 1963, without children wishing to continue in the business, Paul-André Chopard sold it to Carl Schueffel III, a German goldsmith and watchmaker from Pforzheim, who was exclusively a watch movement maker for his own business.

2: VAN CLEEF & ARPELS.

The brand expanded into Australia in 2016, opening a boutique in Collins Street, Melbourne. The following year, another boutique opened in Sydney’s Castlereagh Street. A second Melbourne boutique is due to open in Chadstone Shopping Center in 2018.

On 2 December 1933, Van Cleef & Arpels received French patent No. 764,966 for a proprietary gem setting style, which it calls the Serti Mysterieux, or “mystery setting”, a technique employing a setting where the prongs are invisible. Each stone is set on a gold rail less than two-tenths of a millimeter thick. The technique can require 300 hours of work per piece or more, and only a few are produced each year.

3: GRAFF.

Graff is a British multinational jeweler based in London. It was founded in 1960 by British jeweler Lawrence Graff. A vertically integrated company, Graff operations include the design, manufacture and retail distribution of jewelry and watches.

Graff was the first jeweler to receive the Queen’s Award for Industry and Export (now known as the Queen’s Award for Enterprise). Since then, the company has received the award four times, most recently in 2014. The Queen’s Award to Industry and Export is considered the highest award for a British company. It is granted on the advice of the Prime Minister, after a thorough examination of each application by an advisory committee constituted.
