Michael John Clarke  (born 2 April 1981) is an Australian former cricketer. He was the captain of the Australian cricket team in both Tests and One Day Internationals between 2011 and 2015, leading Australia to victory in the 2015 Cricket World Cup. He also served as the captain of the Twenty20 International team between 2007 and 2010. He is regarded as one of the best batsmen of his generation.

Nicknamed “Pup”, Clarke was a right-handed middle-order batsman, occasional left-arm orthodox spin bowler and slip catcher. He represented New South Wales at domestic level.


Michael Clarke is an Australian former cricketer and captain of the Australia national cricket team. He scored centuries (100 or more runs in a single innings) in Test matches and One Day International (ODI) matches on 28 and 8 occasions respectively during his international career. He played 115 Tests and 238 ODIs for Australia, scoring 8,643 and 7,981 runs respectively.

Why did Michael Clarke retire so Early?

Clarke batted poorly during the series, failing to score above 50 in any innings. Australia lost the series after the Fourth Test at Trent Bridge with one match to spare. After the match, Clarke announced that he would retire from international cricket at the end of the series.
