Luis Enrique Martínez García (born 8 May 1970), known mononymously as Luis Enrique, is a Spanish football manager and former player. He is the current head coach of the Spain national team.
A versatile player with good technique, he was capable of playing in many different positions, but usually played as a midfielder or forward, and was also known for his temperament and stamina. Starting in 1991 and ending in 2004, he represented both Real Madrid and Barcelona with both individual and team success, appearing in over 500 official games and scoring over 100 goals. He appeared with the Spain national team in three World Cups and one European Championship.
Guardiola
Luis has done something that neither Tito Villanova nor Tata Martino could and that is to banish the ghost of Pep Guardiola from Barcelona’s history.
Ever since Pep managed to achieve a treble in his first season in management and then went on to win the only sextuple in football history, he has been revered as some sort of football demi-god, a role modeled for all future Barca players. Managers can also only aspire.
